According to Busan City and the Busan Global Urban Foundation, the two organizations, along with the Eurasian Diplomacy Delegation, held the event “Busan is Good. Busan Festa in Dubai” on September 29 from 18:00 to 23:00 (Dubai local time).
The Eurasian Diplomacy Delegation consists of university students, cultural artists, and businesspeople from the Busan region. Their mission is to promote “Global Hub City Busan” abroad by visiting sister cities and engaging in cultural and economic exchange events. This year, the delegation visited Kazakhstan (Almaty) and Uzbekistan (Tashkent, Samarkand) before arriving at their destination – Dubai, Busan’s sister city – on September 29.
The ‘Busan Festa in Dubai’ marked the climax of the delegation’s journey, visiting four cities across three countries to establish new foundations for the cultural exchange and cooperation with sister and friendly cities.
On September 29, from 16:00, the delegation hosted the “Busan Festa in Dubai” at the outdoor plaza of Festival City Mall, one of Dubai’s bustling areas, aiming to strengthen the friendship between Busan and Dubai. The festival featured a diverse range of activities, including performances by the Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra and Taekwondo performance team, folk games, Taekwondo experiences, kids’ activities, food experiences, and various prize events.
The event proceeded as follows:
- Opening performance by the Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra
- Opening ceremony (19:00) including speeches, welcoming addresses, congratulatory remarks, and commemorative photos
- Taekwondo demonstrations, a fountain show, and more.
The performances, including the orchestra, fountain show, Taekwondo demonstration, K-pop cover dance performances, random dance plays, and K-Quizzes, were repeated 2-4 times until 23:00.
Over 2000+ participants attended the event, including officials from Dubai Government, representatives from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Dubai, KOTRA Dubai Trade Office representatives, and Dubai residents and citizens, making it a successful exchange event.
The Vice Mayor of Busan commented, “Busan and Dubai, which have been sister cities since 2006, share many similarities, such as having the world’s largest ports and achieving rapid growth in a short period despite a lack of natural resources. Both cities are also recognized by leading global media as attractive tourist destinations. This event served as an opportunity to introduce the charm of Busan to Dubai’s citizens and strengthen the friendship between our sister cities.”
